An inquest heard both items were not fixed to the wall and the TV was sat “balanced” on top of the fireplace.

Carter, who had been dancing around the living room to a television show, was rushed to hospital but sadly couldn’t be saved.

A post-mortem gave a provisional cause of death as head injuries following the horror on September 18.

Bolton Coroner’s Court was told Carter was being looked after by a relative at the time while his mum Samantha Walsh was at work.

Coroner Professor Dr Alan Walsh adjourned the full inquest until a date to be set.

He added: “I send my condolences to members of Carter’s family.”

Carter’s aunt Natalie Prescott, 35, previously said he had gone out for lunch at a carvery restaurant with her mum, sister and daughter.

She told how the toddler had the “best day ever” when he got to visit her mum’s horses

He was seen in a heartbreaking photo gazing up at one of the animals just 30 minutes before the horror.

Mum-of-four Samantha discovered what had unfolded moments later when Saskia rang her to say there had been an accident.

The heartbroken mum, 38, said in a heartbreaking tribute: “He was my best friend.

“He was well-loved, not just by his family but by anybody that met him. He broke the hearts of everybody he met… He was the apple of our eyes.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to the home following welfare concerns.

They said enquiries are ongoing and they are supporting the family.
