Stars have to swim with a different species which get bigger and more dangerous each time.

One political insider quipped: “We all thought Penny had escaped the sharks when she left Westminster.”

The show will be filmed later this year — in an area of the Bahamas known as the “Shark Tank” — to coincide with the 50th anniversary of movie blockbuster Jaws.

A description of the show warns: “These A-listers will push past their limits to come nose to nose with nature’s ‘villains’.”

Ms Mordaunt, who lost her Portsmouth seat in July’s Conservative election bloodbath, is no stranger to taking the plunge on TV.

Ten years ago she bellyflopped in swimwear on ITV show Splash!

She went on to become Britain’s first female Defence Secretary before taking over as Leader of the Commons, and was tipped as a future Tory leader.

An ITV spokesperson said: “The team are talking to lots of different celebrities to find out who might be brave enough to take the plunge!

“The line-up will be announced in due course.”

Ms Mordaunt declined to comment.
