A BRITISH man who stabbed his girlfriend’s secret lover with a seven inch knife has been handed a three-year prison sentence.
Danielli Ngandu, 29, has admitted to attacking a 33-year-old man after he discovered him in bed with his girlfriend in Majorca.
He punched the love rival in the face before knifing him in the chest in the horror attack in the holiday resort of Santa Ponsa near Magaluf.
The attack with the seven-inch weapon left Aly Mbengue, 33, fighting for his life.
Prosecutors initially wanted a nine-year sentence for Ngandu but a plea deal lowered his time behind bars.
He was formally sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty at the Audiencia Nacional court in Palma.
Ngandu was ordered to pay £25,000 in damages and a five-year restraining order is in place meaning he can’t be within 500m of the victim.
Public prosecutors said in their pre-trial indictment: “Both men were dating the same woman but neither knew about her double life.
“During the row sparked by them discovering what was going on, the defendant attacked the other by punching him in the face and with the intention of ending his life or at least assuming the possibility this could happen, stabbed him in the chest with a seven-inch knife.
“The injuries caused placed the victim’s life in grave danger and he would have died if he hadn’t been admitted to a hospital intensive care unit so quickly and a chest drain inserted before subsequent surgery.”
Another lawyer acting for the victim said the knife attack was so intense it “penetrated his abdominal cavity”.
They said he was left suffering post-traumatic stress as well as having multiple scars and breathing difficulties.
